How Do You Do Keyword Research For Online Advertising?
A very critical part of the success of an online marketing is the selection of keywords. Really, just like Search Engine Optimization or SEO, online advertising is dependent on keywords. One of the most popular, if not the most popular, advertising platform right now is Google Adwords.
There is no need to create an Adwords account as you can automatically login to the platform using your Gmail address. For the purposes of this article, we would like to invite you to login to Google Adwords and look for the button that says Keyword Planner.
Once the Keyword Planner tool is loaded, type a seed keyword, example: New York SEO, in the search bar that is related to the product or service you are promoting. Click the button below the search bar. After a few seconds, you should be able to see a list of keywords grouped according to themes that are related to the keyword you just typed.
The Keyword Planner presents information in a table format where you will find the keyword, information on search volume, and strength of competition. Now, it’s all a matter of choosing and bidding on the keywords that you are going to create an ad campaign around.
There are online marketers out there who say that you should bid on the keywords that have a high enough search volume but does not have such a high competition. This is good, however, you should NOT even bother to look at the search volume and the strength of the competition, unless if you are absolutely certain of this information: Keyword conversation
Keyword conversation means the things that are going through a searcher’s head when he did a search. We really do not need to tell you, but different searchers have different goals in their search. Some just want information about a particular topic while others want a solution to a problem really fast. Still, there are searchers who want to know if buying a certain product or service would be a good idea.
No matter what you do, only choose the keywords where it is painfully obvious that the searcher wants a solution to a problem that they have or is looking for information about a specific brand. Why? Because those are buyer keywords where the searcher is ready to buy. Definitely, you will have more profits if you choose those keywords.
Unfortunately for you, Google limited the number of keywords that shows up in the Keyword Planner Tool. However, there are other tools out there that you can use to expand your keyword selection.
You can use the Bing keyword tool Although it is a tool for Bing ads, you can find keywords there that people who use Google are using. Another tool that you can use is Scrapebox, which is a downloaded software that scrapes keywords from different sources, including Google keyword suggest (keyword suggestions that appear in the search bar as you type), Bing, Yahoo and a host of other sources.
